My Best Friend
My very best friend in the world is my husband. Has been from the day we met.
Friendship is the best basis for a stable marriage. If you are friends first, before the distractions of intimacy enter into the picture, then it is more likely to endure the ups and downs that are an inevitable part of married life.
Friends give to one another unselfishly. They enjoy one another's company. They support each other in hardships.
That is the perfect recipe for happiness in marriage also. I have felt so blessed to be able to spend my life with someone I like.
You know, if you asked me to tell you why I love my husband, I am not sure I could tell you. I just know that I do. That out of all the people in the world, he is the person whom I most like to spend time with.
I hear women saying that they are so tired of having their husband home on vacation and that they cannot wait until they go back to work. Or that they dread the day that he retires, because they are sure he'll drive them nuts.
I've never felt like that. I've always loved it when Kevin had more time home, and I feel just a little incomplete when he is not here. If we miss making contact with each other on a daily basis, I start to feel crabby and edgy, and so does he.
For almost 7 years, he worked nights, and I slept alone. I had a harder time during those years - somehow, his proximity at night made a difference in our relationship.
He is part of me, and I notice when he is not around. I like it when he comes home at night. He has been my best friend for more of my life than he has not been.
And I can't think of anyone with whom I'd rather spend the rest of my life.
